Hanko-Ryu Karate-Do Association sent their biggest squad to date to the EKF National Championships at Ponds Forge Sheffield and came home with 5 new national champions and three bronze medals.

There were over 585 competitors from 43 associations at the nationals and the Hanko-Ryu squad did the association proud. All competitors showed excellent discipline on and off the mats, Chief Instructor Nariman Jeddi said "I am ever so proud of everyone who competed for Hanko-Ryu. First Hanko-Ryu Association Interclub Competition
Saturday 15th March saw the first Hanko-Ryu Association Interclub Competition take place at Mark Hall Sports Centre. Around 80 competitors representing Hanko-Ryu Harlow, Hanko-Ryu London, Shitoryu Karate Academy and Shinjiru Karate took part in kata and kumite events.

The categories were arranged from red belts upto Dan grades with a few alterations due to age and weight. The event ran well with Sensei's Lavender, Aimee, Clare and Danielle assisted by some of the Dan grades for the younger kata categories and Sensei Nariman refereeing all the kumite.

It was a good chance for all the students and parents of the association to meet and hopefully this event will get bigger and better each year.

Hanko-Ryu Mission Statement

Our mission is to develop the fitness, health, character and sportsmanship of all our students through the practice of karate. We aim to develop the character of our students by giving them opportunities to be accountable for their development. Our most important goal with our students is to help reinforce core values such as respect, discipline, honesty & integrity. The physical aspects of martial arts are critical but without the development of character, they will be meaningless. Individual attention is a feature of each and every class, allowing all students to progess quickly and confidently towards their personal goals and full potential.

We have developed a unique program based on work and fun for our youngsters, our philosophy is based on a lifetime learning concept in addition to technical skills of karate. The building blocks for our philosophy are based on values such as:

Goals:
Respect, Friendship, Perseverance, Self-Control, Confidence, Self-Improvement, Discipline, Courtesy, Self-Awareness, Honesty, Integrity, Self-Esteem and Dedication.
